Comintel Green Technologies Launches Malaysia's First Carbon-Negative Biomass Power Plant, Generationg 2 Megawatts Of Electricity Per Hour

KUANG, SELANGOR, 13 JUNE 2015 – Comintel Green Technologies Sdn. Bhd. (CGT) today launched its first thermal decomposition biomass power plant - capable of generating 2 Megawatts (MW) of electricity per hour – the first of its kind in Malaysia. The biomass is sourced purely from Municipal Garden Waste (MGW) and any form of wood and plant-based residues such as palm oil dry fruit bunch, palm kernel shells, wood chips, sugar cane pulp and refuse-derived fuel. As a result, the plant is also able to handle the complex nature of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) which includes inert waste such as glass and sand. CGT adopts an advanced biomass gasification technology from Biogen, a proven, proprietary technology that converts biomass from MSW and MGW into a high quality synthetic gas (called syngas) for the production of renewable energy in the form of electric and thermal power. The technology uses a process called pyrolysis to thermally decompose (carbonize) the feedstock with little or no oxygen, breaking it down into simple molecules and converting them into syngas.
